At Sopwith Watch Company, our journey is rooted in a passion for history and a dedication to craftsmanship. From the outset, our mission has been to create more than just watches; we craft heirlooms that carry with them the legacies of the world’s most iconic aircraft and the fearless individuals who piloted them.
Each Sopwith watch is a testament to our unwavering commitment to quality and heritage. Our timepieces are meticulously designed to honor the artistry and innovation of aviation’s golden age, while also serving as a timeless symbol of adventure and resilience. As you explore our story, you’ll discover the inspirations behind our name and the vision of our founder, both of which have shaped the essence of our brand.
Every Sopwith timepiece is a work of precision. Our master watchmakers craft each case entirely from the rescued steel of authentic World War–era aircraft, recovered one piece at a time from around the world.
From the engine of a Nieuport 28 to the armored plating of a Focke-Wulf Fw 190, every gram of metal carries the unmistakable mark of history. We forge and shape these rare materials, preserving their origin while refining them to modern horological standards. There is no replication or surplus, only what history allows.
Each Sopwith watch is a fusion of engineering excellence and historical integrity, created to endure not just as a measure of time but as a testament to it.
Our story is rooted in gratitude. Sopwith exists to honor the daring spirit of the aviators, engineers, and craftsmen who risked everything in the pursuit of progress.
The metals we rescue once carried men into the skies of war and history, symbols of courage, innovation, and sacrifice. By transforming these materials into precision timepieces, we preserve their legacy and allow it to live on in the hands of a new generation.
Every Sopwith watch stands as a tribute to those who built, flew, and fought, serving as a living reminder of human resilience and the pursuit of excellence.
Sopwith watch cases are created from a finite supply of extraordinarily scarce metals. Each edition is limited not by a marketing plan, but by the reality that historic metals are in very short supply.
There will be more gold in the world next year than there is this year because gold is still being mined. There will not be more steel from a World War 2 fighter airplane. There isn’t a mine on earth that produces Messerschmitt Bf 109’s.
The watch industry generally relies on cases manufactured from bulk steel in China and Southeast Asia. The relatively small number of brands who genuinely melt their own steel and cast their own cases commonly receive their metal in the form of bulk bars and rods manufactured in the far east.
By contrast, Sopwith Watch Company secures historic steel in small lots from around the world. Each piece is personally acquired by the company’s founder and brought back to Sopwith headquarters in Houston, one pound at a time and one piece at a time.
When you find a Sopwith watch that warms your heart, acquire it immediately because there is no artificial scarcity being created. We simply can’t make any more.
